Warp Keep / Discard Buttons
As the idea for the site is that the community monitors / creates its own quality control filter I wanted to introduce Keep or Discard buttons below the video. Too many Discards and the video is removed. This should mean that only the best clips are left for use in the video podcast that Warp can put together as promo for themselves and their musicians.
I started off by making some tags but they look too out of place below the video.
Dropping the colour and colouring the text helps to make them less in your face but they don't really look like they fit with the rest of the page.
Turning them into symbols works much better and is in keeping with the rest of the page.

Warp Site Headers
As the Warp Optics site is going to be the visual side of clubbing to accompany the Warp artists, I want the design to remain graphic so it ties in with the rest of the Warp sites but reference the fact that its emphasis is screen based. I thought the best way of doing this would be to look at test cards and AV bars.
These are the initial header designs for the Warp Optics site based on colour bars and test cards.
I think that this one is the most successful, the gradient is better than the block RGB colours as it references the spectrum and links together nicely with the grey gradient created by the brey boxes.
Warp Site Plans
Thumbs of my Warp Optics site idea. Through producing these it helped me to figure out the way in which the site would work and how the user will interact with it.
Placement of the buttons across the top of the page is in keeping with other Warp sites rather than the left of the page (bottom image).

Warp Optics
I decided to go for the below Warp Optics logo as it references their Bleep.com logo and ties the sites together. I did however decide to tidy it up a little bit. I dropped some of the chracters x heights down to create an even height and also rounded the corners of the P T and I so they would appear softer. These changes help to gel the characters together to create a unified logo form.

Warp Optics Logos
Originally I was going to call my proposed site for Warp 'Warp Vision' but it is the name of their Video DVD and it seemed a little boring. Looking at the word Vision, I found some synonyms. Optics instantly stuck out at me and presented a much more interesting name.
Below I have developed my initial sketches. The first references the logo form for Warp's shop, Bleep.com, to create some unity between the designs. The logo has been incorporated into the name.
These designs have been inspired by the idea of fibre optic cable. The circle shapes represent a cross section of the cable. To me these don't seem obvious enough to be successful as a logo.
These overlay logo ideas are designed to represent vision but seem to look more like the Mastercard logo more than anything. Also as a rule of thumb, overlays in logos are a bad thing. If they were printed at a small scale they would just look like a mess. No good.
This design references Newton's prism experiment, just like Pink Floyd did. The only difference (apart from the Warp logo) is that the beam is split into RGB rather than the colours that make up white light. This is a reference to the RGB colour space of computers and electronic devices my proposed website and podcast will appear on. Too close to Pink Floyd for me.
I decided to try some bold type but find it loses legibility if it is at a small scale. It also has the ability to age very badly. I also decided to put the logo in some glasses. These look pants. I'm not sure quite what I was thinking.
Looking to simplify the design I focussed on the idea of vision and optics eventually ending up with the eye. The fourth one down, in my opinion, is the most successful. Very close to the original Warp logo. However none of these designs sit comfortably with the word Optics, nor do I think Warp would use a design like this.
Extremely simple now, two dots to represent the eyes. Perhaps too simple. I think the logo looks too disconnected because the dots a separate entities, a frame or something is needed.
Dropping the two shape approach I tried adding a frame around all the elements (bottom). This helps to solidify the logo and prevent it floating in space.
